Interference drag occurs from the intersection of air streams, which creates eddy currents and turbulence. In an airplane, significant interference drag occurs from the merging of air flowing around the fuselage, and air flowing over the wing. Wing fairings are used to minimized such drag, which is highest when two surfaces meet at a perpendicular angle.
