An electronic thermostat that learns from the adjustments a user makes, and then automatically alters the temperature based on these patterned behaviors, with the scope of saving energy, while maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature. Users can make adjustments through the thermostat itself, or through the web or mobile app, as the thermostat is Wi-Fi-enabled, which allows to remotely switch heating or cooling on/off, and control temperatures. It's key quest is to reduce the difficulty users typically find to program thermostats, by making the thermostat automatically learn from user adjustments. It can also detect whether there is no one around (in the space where nest is installed), and automatically switch off heating or cooling. Its development started in 2010 by Nest Labs, and was introduced in 2011.
