An airbag worn around the neck to replace the traditional bike helmet. Through advanced sensors, Hovding senses the cyclist's movement patterns and inflates in the event of an accident. It provides 3 times better shock absorption than traditional helmets (according to Folksam's tests), while protecting more of the cyclist's head and neck. The sensors are manually turned on when the zip tag is attached to the collar just before biking. The battery inside can be charged through a micro USB cable. LEDs on the front of the collar show the battery level and whether the system is on. The collar is waterproof and includes an enclosing shell that can be removed for washing or for attaching one with another color. Once the Hovding has been deployed after an accident, it cannot be reused. Some insurance companies may cover part of the expense of a new device. Development of the Hovding started in 2005 as an industrial design thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin.
